ANNUAL TWO DAY FOUNDATION COURSE IN CHILD DEVELOPMENT
The Foundation Course has established a reputation for making psychodynamic ideas accessible and highly practical for all professionals who work with children, adolescents and parents in a wide range of settings. These include social workers, psychologists, maternal and child health nurses, kindergarten and child care workers, teachers, doctors and community workers. No previous therapeutic experience is required.

The Foundation Course is devised and run by Ruth Schmidt Neven, Director of the Centre and previously Chief Psychotherapist at the Royal Children's Hospital. Her book, Emotional Milestones: From Birth to Adulthood, is essential reading for the course and is included in the fee.
ADVANCED STUDIES IN CHILD AND FAMILY DEVELOPMENT
This one year part time Course run fortnightly on a Friday is open to all professionals working with children parents and families in any setting who have completed the two day Foundation Course. No prior experience of therapy or counseling is required. The Course is underpinned by the Psychodynamic Method which emphasises understanding of the meaning of behaviour within a developmental family and social context. It comprises four modules: Infant Observation, Foundations of Attachment , The Impact of Separation Loss and Trauma and Assessment Therapeutic Communication and Case Management. *** click here for details of the Advanced Course***
TWO YEAR TRAINING IN PSYCHODYAMIC COUNSELLING WITH CHILDREN PARENTS FAMILIES AND THE COMMUNITY
This two year part-time training is open to all graduates of the Advanced Studies in Child and Family Development. No prior experience of therapy or counseling is necessary. The training comprises theoretical and practical modules in individual counseling with children and parents, family and group counseling as well as practical clinical placements. The training has been established in particular to promote and consolidate clinical expertise and preventative services in the public health, welfare and education sectors. Graduates of the two year training are accredited by the Association to full membership.
